Harleston Greenspace. I have added my support to a planning application for change of use to a field at Rushall Road to create a publicly accessible area. This is a precursor to creating a nature conservation area and enhancing the community’s good work on nature recovery. The application will be discussed at a DMC meeting as it relates to SNC owned land. Unfortunately, I will not be able to take part as I must declare an interest and would be predetermined in my opinion. You can read more about the plans elsewhere in the Grapevine.
Grants and Funding. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in an application to the Community Action Fund with £4,000 to help the Primary Phase of Sancroft Academy develop outdoor nature hubs. That makes two years running with unsuccessful applications, but undaunted I will keep trying to bring money to Harleston.
Invasion of the Pylons and Batteries. South Norfolk is quickly becoming a focus for new energy infrastructure projects with proposals for solar farms, battery storage, substations, and powerlines increase. SNC commissioned a study to explore how different types of energy projects can be thoughtfully delivered. This study will support the Council in making informed decisions that balance progress with protection, ensuring South Norfolk remains a beautiful place to live, work, and visit.
Park Hotel in Diss. I am sure you will be aware of plans to use the Park Hotel in Diss to home single adult male asylum seekers. The District Council were only made aware of the government plans on a Wednesday before the planned removal of the current families, including women and children, on the following Monday. SNC were able to delay the process and are continuing to work closely with the police and partners, and If the Home office continues with its plan, then SNC will use all options available, including planning powers to support both the families living in the hotel and the local community. This is a fast moving issue and will have moved by the time you read this message. Please look at the SNC website and FB page for updates.
I will not hold a surgery in September as I will be helping with Heritage Open Days on 13 Septem
ber. Maybe you could pop into the Swift Bar of the Swan hotel where I will be hosting a nature conservation exhibition
