I have worked with environmental groups to submit an expression of interest for a conservation project in Harleston. I am glad to say that this was successful, you can find out more in a special article in this edition of the Grapevine.
Cllr Deborah Sacks was elected as the new Chair of South Norfolk Council. Deborah announced her support for the Ted Ellis Trust, a charity dedicated to protecting and celebrating Norfolk’s natural heritage, as the focus of her fundraising during her term.
I remain as Vice Chairman of the Environment Committee, Finance Regulatory and Risk Committee, and Compliance and Enforcement Oversight Board. Also, as a member of the DMC (Planning) and Scrutiny committees, and as the representative on the Norwich Area Museums Committee.
SNC have delivered 333 new affordable homes in 2024/25, greatly exceeding the target of 169. This is a testament to a commitment to ensuring residents in our district have access to quality, affordable housing. There was a groundbreaking at The Oaks, Harleston which will feature 91 flats and 16 bungalows, providing safe and supportive homes for those maintaining their independence with care.
I have been working with the Historical Society on Heritage Open Days. The events have been published and we have 17 entries, which is even more than last year. Thank you to all the local groups who are taking part.
There is very little to report on local government reoganisation. The next stage of the process is for County, Norwich and all the Districts to form proposals for the new wards or divisions and determine councillor numbers.
It was a pleasure to attend the Annual Town Meeting and hear about the great work of our community groups. I would like to express congratulations to Cllr Mo Mba for being reelected as Chair of the town council and Cllr Lucy Chenery for being newly elected as Vice Chair. Also to thank Cllr Matt Scade for his work as previous Vice Chair of the council.
I will hold my next surgery on 12 July at Harleston Information Plus on Exchange Street in Harleston at 10:00. It would be great to see you there.
Cllr Trevor Graham

Member for Harleston
