A grant of £300 was given to the Harleston Players theatre group, Station 366 singing group and a dance group based in Wortwell for a community performance project. A local playwright, Eileen Ryan, has been commissioned to write a script exploring the relationship between the American forces stationed in Easy Anglia during the war and the locals of Suffolk and Norfolk to celebrate the 80th anniversary of D Day.

The play will raise awareness of local history through dance, song and drama. Costumes and props will be available for future productions. Research material will be published on the local Historical Society website and on the Town Council ‘Visit Harleston’ tourism focused website. The play will also coincide with the new TV mini-series ‘Masters of the Air’ and help a SNC tourism initiative for Harleston based around a walking trail of The Friendly Invasion.
