This month I highlight some of the announcements which have been made by South Norfolk Council (SNC).

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Broadland and South Norfolk Business Awards. These awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of local businesses across both districts. Nominations are open until Friday 12 December: https://www.southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk/businessawards

The formal public consultation on the draft Design Code Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and supporting documents remains open and runs until Monday 8 December: https://orlo.uk/imJ74. The SPD sets design requirements for achieving the key design principles that have been identified locally as being important. However, running at over 200 pages long, it is not an easy read.

It can be challenging for businesses to navigate through the regulatory landscape and key requirements that are part of being a commercial success. The Business Regulatory Support Hub offers one dedicated and friendly point of contact to help smooth the path: https://www.southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk/businesshub

A brand-new Bin Collection app has been released. You can now report missed bins, report fly-tipping, and book a bulky waste collection. The old app will soon be retired, so make the switch today, download the new app now: https://orlo.uk/jtqcI

It was great to again see a wonderful turn out at the Remembrance Day parade. It is very important that we do not forget the sacrifices that others have made for us.

I am honoured to have been appointed Chair of the SNC Environment Committee. The Council awarded eleven grants totalling £70,000 for nature conservation projects across the district. The project at Rushal Road is one of the projects and is about to move into the delivery stage. The Harleston community nature recovery concept is under consideration by Adrian Ramsey MP for promotion across the entire Waveney Valley constituency. Harleston is leading by example.

I will not hold my surgery in December and will return next year on 10 January at Harleston Information Plus on Exchange Street in Harleston at 10:00. It would be great to see you there.

Until then, I wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
